Enjoy Shelby Farms ‘Park After Dark’ with these 3 events

-

Shelby Farms Park closes at sunset, but three events give Memphians a chance to enjoy the “Park After Dark.”

During Park After Dark: Outdoor Movie Nights, movies will be shown on the park’s Green Lawn.

“We hosted a couple of outdoor movie nights in 2017, and they were so well received that we decided to add a summer series,” said Rebecca Dailey, Shelby Farms Park’s communications coordinator.

Movies featured are: “Jaws,” July 21; “Top Gun,” July 28; “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” Aug. 4; and “Pirates of the Caribbean,” Aug. 11.

“Attendees are invited to bring blankets or lawn chairs and have a sunset picnic on the lawn before the movie starts,” Dailey said. “Visitors can bring their own food or purchase food from a local food truck.” Alcohol is not allowed at the event. Parking is free for park members or $10 per car for nonmembers. Proceeds will benefit Shelby Farms Park Conservancy, the nonprofit that manages Shelby Farms Park and Shelby Farms Greenline.

Individuals who attend Park After Dark: Outdoor Movie Nights can expect a family-friendly environment.

“Outdoor movie nights are a fun way for the whole family to spend time together outdoors,” Dailey said.

Stargazing and Park + Pajamas are two other “Park After Dark” programs.

During the Stargazing events July 18 and Aug. 18, attendees can view constellations, planets and star clusters with telescopes provided by Memphis Astronomical Society. The free event is open to all ages and takes place on the lawn at the First Tennessee Foundation Visitor Center.

Park + Pajamas is a family sleepover set for Sept. 14-15. The event will include s’more making, movies and stargazing, among other activities. Individuals must register in advance and bring tents.
