Georgia, Alabama stand in way of 12-0 Auburn season

- Duane Rankin USA TODAY

Auburn has only won at least 10 games in a regular season twice under Gus Malzahn.

The Tigers seem to have issues with prosperity.

They struggle to meet high expectations, but have thrived as an underdog. ❚ 2013 – 11-1 ❚ 2014 – 8-4 ❚ 2015 – 6-6 ❚ 2016 – 8-4 ❚ 2017 – 10-2 With Jarrett Stidham back at quarterback and the nation’s best defensive line, Auburn is expected to have a great season, but Alabama and Georgia are favorites to meet in Atlanta, again, this time for the SEC title.

Auburn plays both schools on the road.

So, anyone who predicts the Tigers will win in Athens, Georgia, and Tuscaloosa in the same season is either crazy or believes they’re capable of going 12-0 in 2018.

I have an idea what’s going to happen, but not ready to share that right now.

Washington. Auburn opens season Sept. 1 against the Huskies in Atlanta.

Chris Petersen will have Washington ready.

The Huskies have some talent, but Auburn’s defense will have its way with their offense and score enough to finally win a game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Alabama. Auburn hasn’t won at Alabama since 2010.

The Tigers haven’t won consecutive games against the Crimson Tide since 2006-07.

They have the talent to pull both off Nov. 24, but Alabama will be more than hungry to avenge its only loss last season.

Texas A&M. Don’t expect the Aggies to challenge in the SEC West.

Jimbo Fisher needs at least a year to get A&M rolling, but its in an ideal spot to stun the Tigers.

Auburn will be coming off a bye and have Georgia the following week.

Georgia. The Bulldogs and Tigers played twice in a season for the first time ever last year.

Auburn and Georgia each had lopsided wins over the other, but the Bulldogs won the game that matters to capture the SEC title and a spot in the playoff.

They may face each other again after the Nov. 10 game, but this time, play the rematch in the playoff.

Auburn has won its last two games at home against LSU.

Considering how the Tigers blew a 20-0 lead last season to lose in Baton Rouge, they should have the incentive to destroy LSU in the Sept. 24 rematch.
