Patrick Stewart to reprise ‘Star Trek’ role as Picard in new series

Patrick Stewart is boldly going where he’s been before: “Star Trek.” CBS All Access said Saturday that Stewart has been tapped to headline a new “Star Trek” series, reprising his “Star Trek: The Next Generation” character, Captain JeanLuc Picard.

The new series is not a “Next Generation” reboot but will tell the story of the next chapter of Picard’s life. No title or air date was revealed.

Stewart headlined his “Star Trek” series for seven seasons and portrayed Picard in four movies.

In a statement, Stewart said he thought his “Star Trek” time “had run its natural course,” so he considers it a delightful surprise to be playing Picard again.

‘Mission: Impossible’ bests Winnie-the-Pooh at box office

Tom Cruise has outrun Winnie-thePooh at the box office. “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” topped ticket sales for the second straight weekend with an estimated $35 million despite newcomer “Christopher Robin.”

According to studio estimates Sunday, the sixth “Mission: Impossible” installment has amassed $124 million in its first 10 days of release.

Disney’s live-action Winnie-thePooh revival “Christopher Robin” opened on the low side of expectations with $25 million. It marks the rare Disney film not to open at No. 1, though the studio had other milestones to celebrate. “Black Panther” on Saturday became just the third film to cross $700 million domestically.
