Democratic incivility, hypocrisy

Following Vice President Mike Pence’s use of the word “liberal” to describe Senate candidate Phil Bredesen, the Tennessee Democratic candidate responded by saying he didn’t like name-calling. Sounds like Phony Phil should pass on that advice to Mark Brown, a spokesman for the Tennessee Democratic Party. Brown, who has described President Trump as a “f***stik,” “Putin’s b **** ,” and a “f***ing moron,” and his supporters as “idiots.” Brown is charged with furthering the message of the Bredesen campaign, but this language is anything but moderate, which is how Bredesen described himself. Brown’s message is exactly what was wrong with the Democratic Party’s message in 2016 and what’s still wrong with it in 2018. All we get from the Democratic Party is hypocrisy and people are fed up. I’m calling on candidate Bredesen to condemn Mark Brown and his insulting rhetoric.

Bredesen’s health care experience

You often hear politicians talk about health care, whether it is on TV, on the radio, or in the paper, but few actually listen.

A couple weeks ago, I sat down with a group of women in Tipton County to discuss our concerns with the current state of health care in this country. The event was organized by Democratic Senate candidate Phil Bredesen, but he wasn’t there to talk, he was there to listen.

He wanted to know what mattered most to us, whether it was the high cost of premiums, prescription drug costs, the confusing nature of who pays what and when, or larger issues like the opioid epidemic.

He didn’t care about what party we came from, because for something as big as health care, solutions should transcend partisanship.

Former governor and health care executive Bredesen has a lot of experience with the health care industry ... He knows we need to fix the ACA and rein in the deficit. He knows there are federal solutions to fighting the opioid epidemic.

Most of all, he knows that in order to get things done, you have to work together with folks across the aisle. That’s why I intend to cast my vote for Phil Bredesen for U.S. Senate on Nov. 6.
