Top performers for Week 1 of season

The high school football season has kicked off. See who the top performers were for the Memphis area in Week 1.

OFFENSE Jonathan Braswell, Olive Branch.

Braswell rushed for 144 yards on 12 attempts in a 21-14 win over Colliervil­le.

Evans had a 30-yard TD grab and made eight tackles on defense in a 47-6 win over Douglass.

Forest had 171 passing yards with three TDs in a 47-14 win over Rosa Fort.

Carson Evans, FACS. Sky Forest, Lausanne. Robert Giaimo, Bartlett.

Giaimo victimized the Overton defense for 96 rushing yards and three TDs in a 63-22 victory.

Eric Gray, Lausanne.

The two-time Division II-AA Mr. Football ran for 248 yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns in a 47-14 victory over Rosa Fort.

The LSU commitment found the end zone on catches of 25 and 35 yards in the Owls’ 34-0 shutout of visiting Ridgeway.

Ingram found the end zone three times in the Warriors’ 31-6 victory over Melrose.

The quarterbac­k threw for 114 yards and one touchdown in leading the Eagles past Kingsbury, 34-19.

Maurice Hampton, MUS. Dylan Ingram, Central. Jesse Komoroski, St. Benedict. Elijah Mills, St. Benedict.

Mills ran the ball 10 times for 103 yards and added a 14-yard TD scamper in the Eagles’ 3419 victory over Kingsbury.

Cameron Mosley, Olive Branch.

The Conquistad­ors received 20 carries for 95 yards and one TD from Mosley in a 21-14 road victory over Colliervil­le.

Parker shined the brightest in a 63-22 loss at Bartlett, catching four balls for 113 yards and 2 TDs.

Erin Parker, Overton. Darrell Pittman Jr., FACS.

Pittman made the most of his seven rushing attempts, scoring on TD runs of 10, 1 and 42 yards as the Crusaders beat Douglass, 47-6.

Cole Putnam, FACS.

The Crusaders’ QB threw for 112 yards and 1 TD, while rushing for 119 yards on seven carries and two scores in a 47-6 victory over Douglass.

Preston Raines, Bartlett.

The Panthers saw their QB get off to a good start with 231 yards and one passing TD in a 63-22 win over Overton.

Patrick Richmond, Middle College.

Richmond ran for 165 yards and three scores as the Bulldogs rolled past Rossville Christian, 45-6.

Sellers Shy, MUS.

Shy threw for 189 yards and three touchdowns and added another on the ground, as the Owls blanked Ridgeway, 34-0.

Cameron Sims, Lausanne.

Sims showed some early chemistry with his quarterbac­k, catching two TDs to go along with 91 yards receiving.

Cadarius Thomas,

Thomas had 105 rushing yards on 19 carries and a 4-yard TD run, in addition to 102 passing yards, in the Falcons’ 34-19 loss at St. Benedict.

DEFENSE Will Buchanan and Jared Dawson, Colliervil­le.

The Dragon defensive standouts recorded 9 and 7 tackles, respective­ly in a 21-14 loss to visiting Olive Branch.

DJ Jones, Bartlett.

Not to be outdone by the high-scoring Panther offense in a 63-22 win against Overton, Jones returned an intercepti­on 41 yards for a TD. In a 47-6 triumph

Corbin Estes, FACS. Kingsbury.

over Douglass, Estes returned an intercepti­on 96 yards for a TD.

Playing at Vanderbilt, Gagnon made a pair of nextlevel intercepti­ons to help the Eagles edge Knoxville Webb, 13-10.

Carson Gagnon, ECS. Jordan Henderson,

Henderson returned an intercepti­on 58 yards for a touchdown in the Dragons’ 21-14 loss to Olive Branch.

Hopkins was the Owls’ leading tackler (7.5) in a 34-0 win over Ridgeway that also included one QB sack.

Dorian Hopkins, MUS. Colliervil­le. Johnny Setchfield, Olive Branch.

Setchfield made 10 total tackles and two QB sacks to lead the Conquistad­ors defensivel­y in their 21-14 road win at Colliervil­le.
