Man who had sex with corpse appears in court

- Linda A. Moore Memphis Commercial Appeal USA TODAY NETWORK - TENNESSEE

Cameron Wright, the former St. Francis Hospital security guard caught having sex with a female corpse, appeared in court on Friday but may not have known that he was no longer employed with the hospital.

During his first appearance before General Sessions Court Judge Louis Montesi, Wright told the judge that he was employed with St. Francis, despite a statement from the hospital that said his employment had been terminated.

He also told the judge that his father would pay his $3,000 bond, but there was no one from his family in the courtroom and no one there who was related to the dead woman.

While in court on Friday, Wright saw members of the news media in the courtroom and bent over to hide from view. He also spoke to Montesi with his back to the courtroom.

On Wednesday police were called to the hospital at 5959 Park Ave. after Wright was discovered by a representative from the Mid-South Transplant Foundation and another member of the hospital’s security team having sex with a dead woman in a body storage room. He was taken to police headquarters and admitted to investigators that he’d had intercourse with the body.

St. Francis officials would not comment, but did release a statement:

“Treating those we serve with dignity and respect is our top priority. The behavior of this individual does not represent what our hospital stands for, and these actions are completely unacceptable. We are saddened by this incident, and we are empathetic and sympathetic to the family of the patient.

“We contract with U.S. Security Associates for our hospital’s security services, and all officers are required to undergo thorough background checks. The security guard involved in this situation has been terminated.”
