The Germantown Municipal School District Board of Education voted unanimously to name its newest school Forest Hill Elementary during its meeting Aug. 20.

The selection of a name will help as decisions are made on design choices for the school, Germantown Superintendent Jason Manuel said.

The board did not discuss the name, but during the working meeting, Manuel said he would feel comfortable with the name Forest Hill Elementary.

Manuel was not the only one who liked the name. A district-wide survey asked for input on the new school.

There were 727 people who participated. Forest Hill Elementary was the favorite, with 77 percent choosing the name as their first choice when given a list of three proposed names.

Other choices in the survey were Germantown Oaks Elementary and Poplar Pike Elementary. Fifty-nine percent of respondents chose Germantown Oaks as their last choice.

Only 3 percent listed Forest Hill as their last choice.

Manuel said Forest Hill Elementary is similar to the existing schools in the district that are named after nearby roads. The school will be located at 3366 Forest Hill-Irene.

Forest Hill elementary will open in August 2019 and have room for more than 800 students.
