Memphis police say a man was charged with kidnapping three children and two women at gunpoint on Sunday.

A woman told MPD that she found Kenny Brown, her ex-boyfriend and father of her children, inside of her apartment, according to an affidavit. She told police that Brown, 23, does not have a key or permission to be in the house.

The woman left the apartment with her three children and got into a car with her mother to leave the area. Police say Brown jumped on the hood of the car as they were driving away and pointed a gun at them, threatening to shoot as they were driving.

A gunshot was fired into the air, the affidavit says.

The grandmother stopped the car as Brown got into the backseat. Brown held the gun towards the grandmother forcing her to drive and telling her where to turn, according to the affidavit.

After stopping at a gas station, the grandmother left the car to go into the gas station and call police. They all got back in the car and left the area, following Brown’s directions. While the grandmother was driving, the mother told her to stop.

The mother, the three children and Brown then got out of the car. They started walking while Brown forced all four of them at gunpoint and threatened to kill the mother, police say.

An officer driving by was flagged down by the mother before Brown allegedly threw the gun in a nearby yard. Police recovered the gun and took Brown into custody.

Brown was charged with five counts of aggravated assault, five counts of aggravated kidnapping, five counts of reckless endangerment, aggravated burglary, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
