Memphis teen set to appear on ‘The Voice’

-

Local singer Reagan Strange‘s blind audition on Season 15 of NBC’s “The Voice” aired Tuesday night.

Strange, 14, sang Bebe Rexha’s “Meant to Be” in front of four judges. She chose to be on Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine’s team after both Levine and Blake Shelton turned their chairs for her.

“I went in wanting Blake or Kelly, and my heart was really, really set on Blake,” Strange said. “When I heard the words Adam said, my gut was telling me Adam, and in the moment I chose Adam.”

The Germantown-born singer said she was confident going into her audition due to her past performances and knowing the power she has with her voice.

“I have to go onstage knowing my voice can bring a smile to people’s faces,” she said.

She did not deny she was nervous going into her blind audition.

“It scares you a little bit but once you realize they are judging you based on your voice and not how old you are and what you look like, that what motivates me,” she said. “If they love my voice that’s all it takes.”

Strange said her goal for the show was to share her talent. “I see at the end just letting people hear my voice,” she said. “if that leads to fame, great. But I want to spread joy with my music.”

Strange is the second Mid-Southerner to earn a spot on the show. Germantown Park Ranger Keith Paluso is on Blake Shelton’s team.

“I knew in some way I had to represent my home,” Strange said. “I want to show the world Memphis is still thriving with music. I wanted to represent Memphis really, really well.” The show’s Battle Rounds begin on October 15. Chick-fil-A Mid South shared its support for Strange on Facebook last week leading up to her appearance on the show. She previously sang the national anthem during the local Chick-fil-A 5K run.

“We are so excited for Reagan Strange who has made it on NBC’s The Voice. Reagan is a local singing sensation and good friend to Chick-fil-A Mid-South. She has sung the national anthem at our 5K and was able to showcase more of her talent at our Family Picnic & Field Day,” the Facebook post said.

Strange, born in Germantown, has shared the stage with major artists such as Craig Morgan, Luke Combs, Walker McGuire and others.

At 11, Strange sang the National Anthem to kick off the University of Memphis’ 24 hours of basketball.

Strange sings each season for the Memphis Redbirds, Desoto RiverKings and Memphis Grizzlies as a National Anthem singer.

She was crowned the 2018 Miss Germantown Outstanding Teen.
