Voter registrati­on deadline is Tuesday

Tuesday marks the deadline to be able to register to vote in next month’s general election.

Applicatio­ns to register to vote must be postmarked or received by the Shelby County Election Commission by Oct. 9, and absentee ballots must be requested from the commission by Oct. 30.

Early voting runs from Oct. 17 to Nov. 1.

Voters in Shelby County will weigh in Nov. 6 on federal, state and local races. U.S. Senate and House of Representa­tives, and state lawmaker seats are up for re-election, and Tennessee voters will choose a new governor.

Voters in Bartlett, Colliervil­le, Germantown, Lakeland and Millington will choose winners in a number of local races.

Residents with a Tennessee Driver’s License or a Tennessee Department of Safety ID can use the online system to register to vote or update registrati­on informatio­n, by visiting http://govotetn.com/.

Applicatio­ns to register to vote can be mailed to the Shelby County Election Commission, 980 Nixon Dr., Memphis, TN. 38134. Applicatio­ns can also be hand-delivered to that location, or the downtown Memphis office at 157 Poplar Ave., Suite 137, Memphis, TN. 38103.
