Memphis area high school football: Week 9 top performers

Owen Brody, CBHS.

Brody was 11of-16 passing for 189 yards and one TD in a 42-7 victory at St. Benedict.

Lay led the way with three catches for 98 yards, as seven different Purple Wave receivers caught passes in a 42-7 triumph over St. Benedict.

Antonio Lay, CBHS. Al Wooten, CBHS.

Wooten only ran the ball seven times for 43 yards, but his three touchdowns (2, 1 and 11 yards) were clutch in a 42-7 road win over St. Benedict.

Mitch Austin, Colliervil­le.

Austin blistered the St. George’s defense by completing 16 of 25 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns in a 35-10 victory.

Olsen caught four passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns to help lift the Dragons past St. George’s, 35-10.

Ben Olsen, Colliervil­le. Marcus Hayes, Covington.

In a 2827 win over South Gibson Co., Hayes had 20 rushes for 127 yards and two touchdowns.

Brock Lomax, Covington.

Lomax was a stellar game manager in a 28-27 victory against South Gibson Co., finishing with 78 yards of total offense and two short rushing touchdowns.

Mike Cashaw, Craigmont.

The Chiefs dropped a 20-14 decision at FACS, but Cashaw ran hard (22 carries, 123 yards).

Carson Evans, FACS.

Evans caught six passes for 68 yards, scored twice and had an intercepti­on.

Cole Putnam, FACS

The Crusader MVP in a 20-14 victory over Craigmont was Putnam, who ran for 116 yards, threw for 129 yards and connected on two touchdowns.

Eric Gray, Lausanne.

Gray, committed to Michigan, ran for 179 yards and scored four touchdowns in a 49-13 road win over Northpoint.

Maurice Hampton, MUS.

Hampton, an LSU commitment, caught six passes for 72 yards and one TD, while also returning a punt 87 yards for a score to highlight a 38-0 victory over visiting Briarcrest.

Sellers Shy, MUS.

Shy was on target from the get-go, tossing three first-half touchdowns and finishing his night with 15-of-21 passing for 182 yards in a 38-0 home win over Briarcrest.

Gary Banks, Olive Branch.

Banks rushed for 60 yards and two touchdowns as the Conquistad­ors dropped a 34-33 decision to visiting West Point.

Dakota Braswell, Olive Branch.

Braswell ran the ball 24 times for 102 yards in a 34-33 home loss to West Point.

Cole Catledge, Olive Branch.

In a narrow 34-33 loss to West Point, Catledge completed 11 of his 16 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns.

Josh Stevenson, Olive Branch.

Stevenson continued his strong play of late, reeling in six passes for 92 yards and one TD in the Conquistad­ors’ 34-33 loss to West Point.

Isaac Smith, St. George’s.

Smith hauled in seven passes for 86 yards in a 35-10 road loss to Colliervil­le.

Spencer Smith, St. George’s.

Smith possessed a strong arm in a 35-10 setback at Colliervil­le, completing 18 of 31 passes for 186 yards.

Omari Thomas, Briarcrest.

A bright spot in a 38-0 loss at MUS, Thomas led the Saints with six total tackles.

Fracchia, a senior free safety, had two intercepti­ons to help fuel the Purple Wave’s 42-7 victory at St. Benedict.

Raymond Fracchia, CBHS. CJ Barnes and Jared Dawson, Colliervil­le.

The Dragon duo combined for 13 total tackles and three sacks in a 35-10 home victory over St. George’s. Mathis had five solo tackles and four assists in helping the Crusaders edge Craigmont, 20-14. Rhodes was tops on the Owls roster with 6.5 total tackles, including 1.5 TFL, in a 38-0 triumph over visiting Briarcrest.

Josh Mathis, FACS. Matthew Rhodes, MUS. Javien Adams, Olive Branch.

Adams registered nine total tackles in a Conquistad­ors’ 34-33 home loss to West Point.

E.J. Davis, Olive Branch: Davis had 13 total tackles and one intercepti­on in a 34-33 loss to the two-time defending MHSAA Class 5A state champion West Point.

Elijah Mills, St. Benedict.

Mills was a well-balanced force in a 42-7 loss to CBHS, registerin­g seven solo tackles, one intercepti­on and catching a 34-yard TD pass.

Khalil Moore and Cameron Turner, St. George’s.

The Gryphon duo combined for 15 total tackles in a 35-10 loss at Colliervil­le.
