Where are the moderates?

The voter who kept our country balanced was the moderate. There are the 33% of liberals who vote one column on Election Day, and 33% of hard-core conservati­ves who vote the opposite column. No discussion­s. Then there were the moderates on each side who might actually vote Democratic in one race and Republican in the other. They were the voters who kept us balanced.

We have a senate race in a couple of weeks between two popular candidates... But you and I could be running right now and the results will be the same. A 75-year-old multi-millionair­e wants to be a senator. What an ego. And someone who could have stayed in the House for 20 more years wants to be a senator. The need for power. Either way, we are not voting for Phil Bredesen or Marsha Blackburn. They will be rookie senators who must follow

Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell. If they don't, they will be put so far back in insignific­ant committees the ego cannot be stroked and the desire for power cannot be obtained.

When you vote for Bredesen, you are voting for the Schumer agenda, and when you vote for Blackburn, you are voting for the McConnell agenda. No one in Washington can be a moderate these days, and that is the real tragedy of politics.
