Memphis coach Mike Norvell's recent helicopter recruiting trip has started paying off, with the Tigers getting a verbal commitment from Germantown wide receiver Cameron Baker late Monday night.

Baker, who is 6-foot-2 and 170 pounds, announced his decision on Twitter and is the third Memphis-area player to commit in this class, joining Central defensive lineman Trevis Hopper and Christian Brothers offensive lineman Jacob Likes.

Baker is listed as a two-star recruit by both 247Sports and Rivals.

Germantown coach Chris Smith said that Baker had been offered Monday night by Tigers running back coach Anthony Jones Jr., who traveled with Norvell to Germantown on Friday.

"I think this is where Cameron wanted to be. He wanted to stay home and represent Memphis," Smith said.

Baker also had offers from Howard, Air Force, Indiana, Eastern Kentucky and Tennessee-Martin.

He briefly gave up football his freshman year to focus on cross country, but returned to the sport as a sophomore after being inspired by New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. He recently helped Germantown complete its second consecutive undefeated regular season on Friday.

Smith called Baker one of the hardest working players that he's coached. He added that he attacks the ball well at the high point and is familiar with Memphis' offense since Germantown runs a similar system.

"He's a gutsy receiver and I think he fits well with what Coach Norvell is doing," Smith said. "He's a high character kid who wants to be the best at what he does and I know he's thankful that he gets to do it locally where he wants to be.

Memphis now has 16 players committed in its 2019 recruiting class
