Representatives of the entente powers left Versailles after their first formal meeting yesterday visibly content with the results. Americans present included Col. E.M. House, Joseph C. Grew, Gordon Auchincloss and Sen. Tasker Bliss. Prime Minister David Lloyd George headed the British delegation and Premier M. Clemenceau headed the French delegation. Germany’s capitulation is expected momentarily and she is expected to accept even the most rigid peace terms.

The inmates of the Shelby County jail have grievous cause for complaint. For at least a week it has been cold enough to raise the price of coal, yet the poor unfortunates are suffering and shivering. Not one lump of coal has been burned to render the jail comfortable and the prisoners stand around in groups trying to keep each other warm.
