What to know about voting in Tennessee

— Election Day is finally here, and it all comes down to this after months of campaignin­g and tens of millions spent.

Voters will get the final say in picking Tennessee’s next governor, U.S. senator, congressio­nal representa­tives and dozens of state lawmakers.

The U.S. Senate race has dominated the headlines and airwaves, becoming the most expensive campaign in state history.

Republican Marsha Blackburn and Democrat Phil Bredesen are vying to succeed retiring U.S. Sen. Bob Corker.

Meanwhile, Gov. Bill Haslam faces term limits, and Republican Bill Lee and Democrat Karl Dean are running to replace him.

Here are seven things to know about Election Day.

Is it too late to register to vote?

Yes. The registrati­on deadline for Tuesday’s election was Oct. 9. To check your registrati­on status, visit govotetnNA­SHVILLE .com.

How do I find where to vote?

Check your voter registrati­on card for the location of your voting precinct. You also can go to tnmap.tn.gov/voterlooku­p, enter your informatio­n and find out where to vote.

When do the polls open and close?

Polls open at varying times across the state, depending on where you live. Some open as early as 8 a.m. EST. But the polls all close at the same time on Tuesday, at 8 p.m. EST/7 p.m. CST.

Do I need to bring a photo ID to vote in Tennessee?

Yes. Voters in Tennessee must bring a valid photo identifica­tion card, which can include a driver’s license or photo ID issued by the state of Tennessee, a U.S. passport, a U.S. military photo ID or a Tennessee handgun carry permit that includes a photo.

College student IDs, city- or countyissu­ed IDs and out-of-state photo IDs are not accepted.

What happens if I don’t bring a photo identifica­tion to my polling place?

You will have to vote a provisiona­l ballot. You will then have two business days after Election Day to return to the election commission office to show a valid photo identifica­tion. After that, you’ll have to sign an affidavit, and a copy of your ID will be made to be reviewed

Can I leave work to vote?

Employers are required to give their employees paid time off to vote provided they have been given notice.

How do I find out election results?
