Nurse practitioners booming

Nurse practitioners (NPs) number approximately 248,000 in the U.S., with an additional 23,000 NP students graduating each year. In Tennessee, there are more than 2,000 NPs.

NPs offer a unique combination of nursing and health care service to patients, diagnosing and managing acute and chronic illnesses, and integrated health promotion, disease prevention, counseling and education.

In a population that is aging, with baby boomers becoming seniors in growing numbers, having choices about health care providers will become even more important.

Give thanks to Hyde family

For over a half century I have been fortunate to observe all the Pitt Hyde family has done for this community and it is truly remarkable that one family can do so much for all of us in Memphis, as evidenced by the recent announcement of the Hyde Family Foundation’s gift of an additional $5.2 million to the Memphis Riverfront Concept campaign plus their many other magnanimous contributions. Be sure we give thanks to them on Thanksgiving!
