UT Vols: 5 things to know for Vanderbilt

- Dan Fleser Knoxville News Sentinel USA TODAY NETWORK - TENNESSEE

Who's going bowling?

Tennessee and Vanderbilt will be after a sixth victory on Saturday in Nashville (TV: SEC Network, 4 p.m. ET), which will insure bowl eligibility for the winner.

The Vols (5-6, 2-5) are seeking a 53rd bowl appearance. Their 52 appearances rank sixth in college football history.

Vanderbilt has been to eight bowl games. The last time was the Independence Bowl in 2016.

Tennessee's regular season has ended the past two years with losses to Vanderbilt. Still the Vols are 32-3 in the final game of the regular season since 1982.

Lots of tackles for Bituli, Griffin

Tennessee linebacker Daniel Bituli leads the team in tackles with 70 and has a chance to become the 11th Vol since 1970 to lead the team in tackles in consecutive seasons. The 6-foot-3, 244-pound junior, who is from Antioch, had 90 tackles last season.

Meanwhile, Vanderbilt senior linebacker Jordan Griffin is second in the SEC with 106 total tackles and tied for third in solo tackles (53). He's had as many as 18 twice this season (against Florida and Kentucky) and at least five in every game.

In-state winning streak

Vanderbilt has won seven consecutive games against in-state opponents. The streak dates to a loss at Tennessee to end the 2015 season.

Along with the two victories over the Vols, the Commodores have three victories over Middle Tennessee State and two over Tennessee State.

Vanderbilt has won four of its last six games against Tennessee.

Vanderbilt's Vaughn in a rush

Commodores running back Ke'Shawn Vaughn has rushed for 481 yards in the last three games to reach 976 yards for the season, which ranks third in the conference.

His 7.1 yards-per-carry average is first in the SEC and his 10 touchdowns are tied for fifth.

Vaughn is the first Vanderbilt running back to rush for at least 100 yards in three consecutive games since Ralph Webb in 2016.

Vols perfect in red zone

Tennessee is the only SEC team to have a perfect scoring record inside the 20 in conference games.

UT has reached this territory 17 times and has scored 11 touchdowns and kicked six field goals.
