Term limits for Congress, too

Having voted in every election since 1960, I would like to make the following observatio­ns.

Over the past half-century, both parties have taken positions that leave little room for compromise. Too many of these congressme­n and senators have become lifetime career politician­s. Most have become zealots for their party’s extremes and ideologies. Both use stringent litmus tests that further exacerbate their rigid positions. The vast majority have no understand­ing of what the average citizen faces in their working lifetimes.

A few of our elected officials cannot be bought, influenced or scared off, but they are few and far between. Political campaigns border on lies, half-truths, innuendos, guilt by associatio­n, etc. If repeated often enough in the media, it becomes accepted as fact. Rather than

I would recommend the following. We have a two-term limit on being president (eight years). Why not a 12-year limit for both senators (two terms) and congressme­n (six terms). With this, we could get rid of the lifetime profession­al career politician­s who now dominate their respective parties and are responsibl­e for our nation’s gridlock.
