Murder of an unborn child

A recent news article reported that a man has been indicted on two counts of murder for shooting and killing his girlfriend and their unborn baby. Sad and despicable, for sure, and he should be held accountable for both deaths. So please tell me why no one is held accountable for taking the life of an unborn baby by abortion. This appears to be a double standard to me.

Focus on life, not games

Can someone please explain to me the reasons behind all of the attention given high school athletes? On the news, there was a story on a local high school basketball player and the big choice of what college he was going to play a “game” at. Yes, I said game. So much emphasis is put on throwing a ball through a hoop, or throwing a football Email letters to letters@commercial appeal.com; mail Letters to the Editor, The Commercial Appeal, 495 Union, Memphis, TN 38103; or click on the “Submit Letter” link on the Opinion page atcommercialappeal.com. for a touchdown, or hitting a baseball for a home run. At the end of the day, they are still just games.

Why not give coverage to a high academic achieving student and what college or field of study they are going into? Their studies will further medicine, law, religion, etc. A touchdown, or two points scored by throwing a ball through a hoop, or a home run hit by a player will not change or help this world or its people. Things should be the other way around. Praise those who study and strive to help others first, and put those who play games second.
