Phillip Ashley Chocolates is on the move.

If you have driven down South Cooper Street recently, you will notice the company’s sign is gone. Just before Thanksgiving, this Memphis-based chocolatier ceased operations at 798 S. Cooper St.

“We are moving. We have loved being in Cooper-Young, but we need more space for production,” said Phillip Ashley Rix, founder and head chocolatier.

Rix plans to have a grand reopening in January. He was vague about the new location but says his business will remain in Midtown Memphis.

Despite having closed their storefront location, the company is still producing chocolates and shipping orders across the country.

One notable special order went out this week.

“Serena Williams has a new fashion line called Serena,” Rix said. “We made Sweet Potato Walnut Praline chocolates with her logo on them for a pop-up she is hosting this weekend in Los Angeles.”

Rix described the connection to the famous tennis player as “six degrees of separation.”

“One of my regular clients had sent her a box of our chocolates,” said Rix of how Williams learned of his line of chocolates. “Then her marketing director tasted our chocolates at an event.”

Rix and his team are also busy making chocolates for the holiday season.

Until the new storefront opens in 2019, Phillip Ashley Chocolates are available online at phillipashleychocolates.com.
