Fan laments David Waters’ retirement

There is no remembrance of people of old, and even those who are yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow them. Ecclesiastes 1:11
Tenncare guest column found lacking
I found the guest column about Tenncare reporting requirements a bit irritating. By the writer’s own admission it has been a lifesaver, paying over a million dollars in medical bills. Yet the writer thinks reporting monthly work hours is too much trouble for more than a million dollars in benefits. Less than a half an hour a month for over a million so far and rising. I’d consider doing so little to get so much a blessing. Talk about looking the gift horse in the mouth.

I read this morning the final column of David Waters before his retirement from The Commercial Appeal. I have two main feelings after reading his column. I am saddened that our community Email letters to letters@commercial appeal.com; mail Letters to the Editor, The Commercial Appeal, 495 Union, Memphis, TN 38103; or click on the “Submit Letter” link on the Opinion page atcommercialappeal.com. will no longer have his insights and vision shared in his 35 years as a journalist. Secondly, I am deeply grateful that, from my perspective, David has served as a bold “conscience of the city,” always writing from a strong Christian perspective of justice, inclusivity, and love. Creatively, David engaged faith congregations, and their leaders, into dialogue on how we are to live as God’s people in this city. I see David Waters as a friend, too, and am thankful how he has challenged me as a pastor and a citizen. God bless, David, in your future service!
