Jevon Carter wrote in an Instagram post Wednesday night that he is "forever grateful" to the city that provided him his first shot in the NBA.

The Memphis Grizzlies traded Carter on Wednesday to the Phoenix Suns.

Carter appeared in 39 games for the Grizzlies as a rookie after they selected him 32nd overall in the 2018 NBA Draft.

"To the City of Memphis - I just want to say thank you for giving a guy from Maywood, IL a chance to live out his dream," Carter wrote on Instagram. "Unfortunately, the road has come to an end too soon, but I’m forever thankful as you guys have embraced me as one of your own."

Carter's first and last games with the Grizzlies were arguably his best. In his NBA debut on Dec. 15, Carter defended Houston stars Chris Paul and James Harden and provided an offensive spark with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting in a 105-97 loss. In a season-ending win against Golden State, he scored a career-high 32 points on 8-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc.

In between, Carter spent time playing with the Memphis Hustle and the Gleague as he tried to find a groove offensively in NBA action. Carter will get a fresh start with the Suns, who sent second-year point guard De'anthony Melton to Memphis as part of the trade.

"To the City of Phoenix - I’m glad to be a part of this organization," Carter wrote. "Can’t wait to get started. The grind never stops."
