Grizzlies’ Allen ejected from summer league game

Grayson Allen picked up two flagrant fouls and a technical foul and was ejected from a Thursday night summer league game between the Grizzlies and Celtics.

His ejection came after two hard fouls on Boston’s Grant Williams in a span of seven seconds in the third quarter.

“Get him out of the game,” ESPN2 analyst Dan Dakich said.

“It’s absurd,” play-by-play announcer Ryan Ruocco said.

Allen’s technical came in the second quarter of Memphis’ 113-87 loss.

After handing the ball off to teammate Keenan Evans, Allen appeared to lower a shoulder into the chest of Boston’s Max Strus as Strus completed his run down the court from the offensive end.

Strus’ head flung back after the contact. The play ended immediately with a Grizzlies turn

over, and the game went to a timeout.

“At some point in Grayson Allen’s life, he’s going to have to grow up,” Dakich said after Allen’s technical.

Ruocco explained that Allen continued “kind of jawing with” Strus and that Allen picked up the technical foul for cursing at him.

The TV broadcast then panned to Allen sitting on the bench shaking his head.

Allen developed a reputation during a four-year college career for taking cheap shots at opposing players and has done little to change that reputation in the NBA.

He played for the Jazz as a rookie before being dealt to Memphis as part of the Mike Conley trade in June.

Allen picked up a technical foul in his summer league debut with Memphis.
