Memphis events mark 50th anniversary of Apollo 11
On July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the moon. Here are some events in Memphis commemorating the event. Edge Alley: Shift+gallery
What: A photography exhibit titled “Edge of Space: Apollo XI, Orbiter, Viking I” showcases vintage photographs from historic missions and achievements. The photographs are from the estates of the former director of the Marshall Space Flight Center and other retired NASA employees.

What: “2019 First Man on the Moon 1 Mile, 5K, 10K, 13.1, 26.2” is a virtual race celebrating the Apollo 11 landing. Tickets range from $16 to $30, and 15% of the proceeds will be donated to the Challenger Center. When: July 20-31 Where: Anywhere — participants set their own course and pace.

The museum will host several events throughout July in honor of the Apollo 11 landing, along with a celebration July 16. Back to the Moon: For Good What: A program telling the story of both the subsequent trips to the moon after 1969 and the ambitious goal of the Google Xprize to inspire young engineers to send robotic missions to the moon.
