Trump says US won’t sell F-35 fighter jets to Turkey

-

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump said the U.S. is not going to sell F-35 fighter jets to Turkey after Ankara decided to buy a missile defense system from Russia. The Trump administration has told Turkey that it will be cut off from buying F-35s if it buys the S-400 Russian air defense system because it’s incompatible with NATO defenses and could jeopardize sensitive information about F-35 technologies. Trump blamed the Obama administration for never reaching a deal to sell an American missile defense system to Turkey.

WASHINGTON – Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said he supports legislation that would create a commission to study reparations for the descendants of enslaved black people in the United States. The New York Democrat on Tuesday said that more must be done to address the country’s legacy of racial inequality. Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee introduced a resolution that would create the commission to explore reparations. Last month, a House committee held the first hearing on the issue in a generation.

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam is struggling to raise big money in a key election year after a blackface scandal nearly ended his political career. New campaign finance reports show the Democratic governor raised slightly more than $300,000 between April and June. That’s far below the seven-figure hauls his predecessors raised during similar periods when they were in office. “His fundraising is weak, and he’s a drag on Democrats,” Republican Party of Virginia spokesman John March said.

SOFIA, Bulgaria – Bulgarian officials said Tuesday that unidentified hackers stole the personal details of millions of people from Bulgaria’s national revenue agency and noted a possible Russian link in the case. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov called an emergency meeting of all law enforcement services to consider the potential harm to the country’s national security. Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov said hackers behind the breach contacted local media by using a mailbox from a Russian domain. The leak is the biggest in the Balkan country.
