Levitt Shell announces free fall concert schedule

Roots rocker Reverend Horton Heat, Memphis hip-hopper Daz Rinko and Nashville singer-songwriter Sam Lewis are among the acts that will play the Orion Free Concert Series at the Levitt Shell this fall.

Shell officials confirmed the lineup for the fall edition of the series, which will conclude the 11th year of free programmin­g at Overton Park.

The Shell will also host two ticketed benefit events. Americana star Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit were previously announced for a Sept. 6 appearance as part of the Shell, YEAH! fundraiser. Levitt Shell officials also announced a second fall Shell, YEAH! show will be headlined by piano pop singer-songwriter Ben Folds on Oct. 4.

The 2019 fall series will launch on Aug. 31 with WLOK’S annual Stone Soul Picnic. The concerts will conclude Oct. 13 with a performanc­e by Madisen Ward & the Mama Bear. In between, there will be two dozen shows featuring a mix of local, regional and national acts, typically playing each Thursday through Sunday.

Among the noted acts set to appear are the up-and-coming Nashville band Los Colognes (Sept. 19), Memphis garage rock great Jack Oblivian (Sept. 20) and acclaimed singer-songwriter Sam Lewis (Sept. 21), and shows by Daz Rinko (Oct. 5) and Reverend Horton Heat (Oct. 11).

The series will also feature performanc­es by Opera Memphis (Sept. 13), a Rhodes College Night featuring souljazz artist Charlie Wood (Sept. 28), and a performanc­e by members of the Rudi Scheidt School of Music (Sept. 29).
