‘Garage sale’ offers pieces of Hallmark ‘Graceland’ movies
Memphis loves its yard sales and garage sales.
But here’s a “garage sale” with a novel and arguably glamorous twist: The producers of the Hallmark Channel’s made-in-memphis “Graceland” movies are selling off three films’ worth of props, wardrobe items, Christmas decorations and Elvis memorabilia.
“All this stuff was in the Hallmark movies,” said co-producer Ryan Westheimer, who is organizing the Aug. 2223 sale with production supervisor Julie Lighty. “It has a certain level of novelty.
“It keeps accumulating and accumulating,” Westheimer added, sounding like any harried homeowner trying to rid himself of excess knick-knacks, gewgaws and tchotchkes.
The sale does not signal the end of the Hallmark-graceland relationship: In fact, more Elvis-connected feature-film romances are planned.
“I’m keeping the stuff I know I can use on future movies,” Westheimer said, “but there’s certain things I don’t need. It’s like a garage sale.”
The extraneous inventory includes not just what Westheimer calls “a ton of Christmas stuff” but clothes that were worn by actors in the three Memphisbased Hallmark Channel movies, “Christmas at Graceland” and “Wedding at Graceland,” with Kellie Pickler and Wes Brown, and the upcoming “Christmas at Graceland 2,” now officially titled “Christmas at Graceland: Home for the Holidays,” with Adrian Grenier and Kaitlin Doubleday, which finished shooting last week.
Shoppers will need an eagle eye and probably a passion for the Hallmark Channel to be able to connect specific movies with specific items, because the objects in the sale won’t be labeled by film. But if you want to hang an ornament at home that originally was purchased to decorate a Christmas tree on a Hallmark “Graceland” set, well, here’s your chance. As Pickler’s Overton Square chanteuse-turned-bank executive character observes in the first entry in the series, in what amounts to a plug for the movie in progress: “You can’t beat Christmas at Graceland!”
The cash-only “Set Decoration, Props, and Wardrobe Sale” will take place from 2-7 p.m. Aug. 22 and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 23 at 1910 Nonconnah Blvd., Suite 106 (the “Wedding at Graceland” and “Home for the Holidays” production office).
