Memphis coach happy to host podcast
NASSAU, Bahamas – Penny Hardaway is many things.
Podcast host will soon be added to the list.
In an effort to capitalize on the hype surrounding the upcoming Memphis basketball season Hardaway agreed to host a new podcast being developed by Histudios, a network that launched last week. First reported by The Verge, the new enterprise will produce shows that place an emphasis on sports content and influencer-hosted material.
Enter Hardaway.
“Yeah, that’s something we’re going to do, have a little podcast this year,” he said Tuesday ahead of the Tigers’ first exhibition game in the Bahamas. “With the excitement going on around the program, we’ve been talking about that. It’s probably going to happen, for sure.”
Others who have also reportedly agreed to take part in their own podcasts include Mike Tyson and the World Surf League.
“Ultimately, (influencers have) just really rabid fan bases,” Peter Vincer, Histudios CEO, told The Verge. “It’s easy to grow an audience, and it’s easy to monetize those, as well, because they tend to be lightning rods when you’re talking with big ad agencies or otherwise because they’re looking for attention.”
Hardaway could not say yet how the format will take shape, other than confirming he will be the host.
Some may be wondering whether he’s had any experience doing such a thing.
“I haven’t,” he said. “But I think it’ll be easy. It’s talking basketball, man. I know I can talk basketball, for sure. So I think it’ll be pretty cool.”
