- Memphis Commercial Appeal USA TODAY NETWORK – TENNESSEE

Memphis' impressive win over Tulane moved the Tigers back into the Amway Coaches' poll at No. 25.

The Tigers (6-1, 2-1 AAC) received 101 votes after defeating a Tulane team that was 27th among teams receiving votes last week in the coaches poll. Memphis spent two weeks in the coaches poll this season and rose as high as No. 20 before its loss to Temple.

Memphis also moved closer back into the Associated Press Top 25 as it is ranked 26th overall among teams receiving votes. The Tigers received 87 votes this week.

Memphis benefited from Washington and Temple dropping out of the coaches poll and Washington and Missouri sliding out of the AP Top 25.

SMU (7-0, 3-0) moved up two spots to No. 17 in the coaches' poll and is the highest ranked Group of Five team after Boise State's loss to BYU. The Mustangs, who are a game ahead of Memphis in the AAC West, are ranked No. 16 in the AP Top 25.

Memphis is the fifth-highestranked Group of Five team in the coaches' poll behind SMU, Cincinnati (No. 18 in coaches poll), Boise State (No. 21) and Appalachian State (No. 22).

All four teams remain above Memphis in the AP Top 25 with Appalachian State at No. 21 and Boise State at No. 22.

The Tigers play Saturday (6 p.m., CBS SN) at Tulsa (2-5, 0-3). SMU plays Thursday at Houston. If both the Mustangs and Memphis win this week, it sets up a showdown at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium on Nov. 2 that determines who takes control in the AAC West.
