Bartlett teen who kidnapped, fatally stabbed girlfriend indicted
A teenager who kidnapped and fatally stabbed his girlfriend last year, then shared the news with the victim's father through text, was indicted on first-degree murder charges Wednesday.
Jordan Harp, 19, was also indicted on one count of especially aggravated kidnapping in the death of the victim, Alaysha Lockett.
At approximately 2:20 a.m. on July 12, officers noticed a black sedan driving erratically near Germantown Parkway and Chimney Rock Road. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but lost sight of it as it turned east bound on Chimney Rock Road, according to an affidavit.
Memphis police patrolled the area of Chimney Rock Road and Kings Cross Lane, where they heard a loud crash. Officers located an abandoned, wrecked black 2017 Toyota Corolla registered to Harp.
The vehicle was parked in front of 2079 Kings Cross Lane with front end damage. Officers found a large knife and blood inside the car.
They also found a pair of pink flip flops covered in blood on the passenger side.
A trail of blood led officers to 2063 Kings Cross Lane, where they found a female unresponsive with a large cut wound to her neck, the affidavit said.
Paramedics pronounced her dead on the scene. The Shelby County Medical Examiner ruled her death a criminal homicide.
Officers responded to a missing person call at 2024 Kings Cross Lane at approximately 2:54 a.m., where Sandra Lockett advised officers that her daughter Alaysha Lockett was missing and Harp texted Alaysha Lockett's father, Darnell, that he had killed her and he would never see her again.
Memphis Police officers sent a Bartlett Police officer to 4546 Successful Lane in Barlett to locate Harp. Officers didn't locate him, but were told by
Harp waived his Miranda Rights and agreed to give a statement. He admitted to kidnapping Lockett and stabbing her when she attempted to flag down an officer.
Harp's brother that he posted on Facebook that he killed someone and police were going to kill him.
Officers located Harp walking near 2803 Lanthorne Drive in Cordova with blood on his hands and clothing. He was arrested and taken to the Memphis Police Department homicide office at 170 N. Main St.
Harp waived his Miranda Rights and agreed to give a statement. He admitted to kidnapping Lockett and stabbing her when she attempted to flag down an officer.
He was charged and transported to the jail at 201 Poplar Ave.
Lockett's death marked Memphis' 100th homicide in 2019.
Chief Prosecutor Greg Gilbert of the District Attorney's Domestic Violence Prosecution Unit is handling the case, according to a press release.
The unit prosecutes felony cases of domestic assault and homicide committed by intimate partners.
