The Wing Guru to open Southaven location
It was the fans of The Wing Guru who decided where the newest location of the Memphis-based wing restaurant would open.
“We did a poll with 92.9 on Twitter,” said Billy Richmond, The Wing Guru owner and former Tiger basketball player. “We asked where the fans wanted our next one … and the fans said Southaven.”
The new restaurant will open Friday at 7090 Malco Blvd. It is just down the street from Malco Desoto Cinema Grill.
Expect all the favorite menu items that can be found at the Bartlett and Mt.
The Weekly Dish
Moriah locations.
The Wing Guru’s menu offers 21 wing flavors, with more in the works.
Richmond pays attention to every detail. The boneless chicken served is fresh, never frozen and cut in-house. The Wing Guru uses only premium gluten-free oil in its fryers. Customer service is also a priority. The restaurants are neat and clean with fun branding on the walls.
In addition to party and whole wings, the menu includes boneless wings, fried chicken sandwiches, fried catfish and burgers.
What will be new is the addition of beer. A beer permit has been applied for, and the restaurant hopes to serve beer to accompany its wings in the near fu
ture.
This is the third restaurant for the company, which is currently in expansion mode. By the end of 2020, three more locations will open — in Hernando, Collierville and Dallas. The new Southaven store and the three under construction are all being opened with partners. Will Smith is the franchise owner of The Wing Guru in Southaven.
Richmond also has plans for a second restaurant chain: The Burger Guru. He said he plans to focus on that concept as soon as he opens the next three The Wing Guru restaurants.
The Wing Guru started in October 2016 in a strip center off Mt. Moriah Road and quickly expanded to a second location off Stage Road in Bartlett less than two years later. The announcement of the North Mississippi expansion comes a little over a year after the Bartlett store opening.
The restaurant will open at 10:30 a.m. Friday after a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
