All Germantown municipal buildings will be closed to the public until further notice in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Facilities will be closed at 5 p.m. on March 18, city officials said Wednesday morning.

City employees will continue to work on-site and remotely to ensure city services continue to function. All non-mandated city meetings will be cancelled or rescheduled for later dates.

“The Germantown Police and Fire departments will continue to exercise extreme caution and are notified of individuals experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, prior to arrival, so as to take additional precautions,” city officials said in a release.

At this time, water service will not be shut down for failure to pay bills. Anyone who has business with the city is encouraged to contact city representatives over the phone or online.

The Germantown Animal Shelter will also be closed until further notice. Pet adoptions will be available by appointment. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (901) 757-7358.

Germantown had already announced the indefinite closure of the library and the Germantown Athletic Club, as precautions against the spreading of the COVID-19 virus.

The city said it will continue to update residents on closures or other precautionary measures being taken in relation to the coronavirus through social media channels and email.
