Fayette-ware hires Lausanne’s Lowe as football coach
Coach served as Lausanne defensive coordinator in 2019
Lausanne defensive coordinator Woodrow Lowe will be the next head football coach at Fayette-ware, the school announced Wednesday.
Lowe was at Lausanne for one season. He was the coach at Bolivar Central from 2014-18, making three playoff appearances.
“When I was at Bolivar, I played them (Fayette-ware) for awhile and saw the direction they were going in,” Lowe said. “I thought it would be a good opportunity. It was tough leaving Lausanne, but this was a better opportunity right now for me and my family.”
He also made coaching stops with the XFL’S Birmingham Thunderbolts where he was a defensive assistant, the CFL’S Ottawa Renegades where he was a defensive line coach, and at Alabama where he was a graduate assistant. He said that he came back to coach high school for the chance to coach his kids and for more job stability.
“It was just harder with the moving and all that and there was a lot of things that I couldn’t control with the XFL and CFL and those kinds of things.
So I just wanted a little more stability and I always wanted to coach my kids,” Lowe said.
His son Kyle was Lausanne’s starting quarterback as a sophomore last year and threw for 1,313 yards and 16 touchdowns with five interceptions. He also rushed for 619 yards and 11 touchdowns.
“I coached my first son, and he ended up signing and going to West Virginia,” Lowe said of Trey Lowe, a quarterback who announced in February he was entering the transfer portal after playing in six games over the last two seasons. “Kyle has the same type of talent. It will be fun to watch him go through the process as well.”
Lowe replaces Michael Hodum, who was hired to coach Fayette Academy in February. The Wildcats were 8-3 last year.
“It was tough leaving Lausanne, but this was a better opportunity right now for me and my family.”
