Only 60.2% of Tennessean­s have participat­ed so far in the 2020 census count

So far, the 2020 national response rate has only been 60.1%, with Tennessee’s response rate just slightly higher at 60.2%, compared to 76% at the end of the 2010 census.

The 2020 census results are still rolling in, but as of May 25, the percentage of Tennessee households that have responded was nearly 16 percentage points less than in 2010.

The national rate of census responses in 2010 was 74% of U.S. households, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

So far, the 2020 national response rate has only been 60.1%, with Tennessee’s response rate just slightly higher at 60.2%, compared to 76% at the end of the 2010 census.

The 2020 census was scheduled to conclude on July 31, but that date has now been pushed to mid-august, due to the coronaviru­s pandemic.

Tennessee is currently tracking just behind Kentucky’s total response rate of 63.8% (more than 13 points lower than Kentucky’s total 2010 response rate of 77%), but better than other Southern states like Alabama (58.2%) and Georgia (56.2%). Both Alabama and Georgia reported a total response rate of 72% in 2010.

As a city, 73% of Nashville households participat­ed in the 2010 census. That rate is also lower this year, at 57.3% as of May 25.

Williamson County has recorded the highest response rate, with 73.2% of households having participat­ed so far. Shelby County recorded a lower response rate, with only 56.8% of households participat­ing respective­ly. Grundy County has recorded the lowest response rate in the state, with only 35.3% of households participat­ing.
