Hardin County’s Wolfe commits to Tennessee

- Michael Odom

The race to get Hardin County fourstar recruit Hudson Wolfe has come to an end. Wolfe announced on Monday that he was committing to play college football at Tennessee.

Wolfe, a 6-foot-7, 255-pound tight end, has been highly recruited for the past two seasons, picking up offers from 13 of the 14 schools in the Southeastern Conference. He is listed on 247Sports Composite as the No. 9 tight end in the country and the No. 6 recruit in Tennessee in the class of 2021.

“My relationship with the with the whole coaching staff has grown tremendously during the coronavirus outbreak,” Wolfe said. “I trust the guys, and they have won in the past. With the recruiting class that Coach (Jeremy) Pruitt is putting together, I will be back winning. The fan base is huge, and I wanted to be a part of it.”

This is Tennessee’s 24th commitment from the class of 2021.

Wolfe believes that there is something special about to happen in Knoxville, and said that played a big part in his decision. But not as big as the relationships he built.

“Relationships was a big part, and so was the recruiting class that Pruitt is putting together. He is going to win games,” Wolfe said.

247 Sports has Tennessee as the No. 3 recruiting class in the class of 2021.

Wolfe announced at the end of March that he had narrowed the list of schools to five — Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Ohio State — and he talked in early June about why he chose each school.

“It was a very tough decision,” Wolfe said. “It has been a very long process. But I am at peace with my decision, and I know I made the right one.”

Wolfe had 27 catches for 471 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior to help Hardin County reach the Class 4A state quarterfinals in 2019.

He has one more season with the Tigers, and he is ready to focus on the 2021 season this week and then when dead period ends on July 6.

“Knowing that I am already committed and I am satisfied with that decision, all focus is on my senior year now,” he said.

Wolfe will join North Side graduate Greg Emerson at Tennessee as the rural West Tennessee players at Tennessee. University School of Jackson’s Trey Smith, Hardin County’s Latrell Bumphus and Haywood’s Emmit Gooden will all be seniors on this year’s team.

“Latrell has been home during this coronavirus. I have grown close with him, and me and him talk every day,” Wolfe said.
