Best among the world’s best
Wine Spectator magazine recognizes the wine lists of nine restaurants in Memphis.
Wine Spectator magazine announced on Wednesday the winners of its 2020 Restaurant Awards, which honor the world’s best restaurants for wine. This year’s awards program recognized 3,776 dining destinations from all 50 states in the U.S. and more than 79 countries internationally.
Nine restaurants in Memphis made the prestigious list.
Char, Chez Philippe, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse, Flight Restaurant & Wine Bar, Folk’s Folly, Paulette’s, River Oaks, Seasons 52 and The Capital Grille were all recognized with the Award of Excellence.
This was Char’s first time on the list. Chez Philippe has been recognized on the annual list the longest of any Memphis restaurant, first appearing in 1995.
“This year’s Wine Spectator Restaurant Award program celebrates restaurants’ resilience, dedication and bravery during these unprecedented times,” said Marvin R. Shanken, editor and publisher of Wine Spectator. “We hope that all of our award winners and the people who make them special will find their way through the crisis to once again welcome us through their doors. We look forward to raising a glass together, and to new beginnings.”
Launched in 1981, the Restaurant Awards are judged on three levels: the Award of Excellence, the Best of Award of Excellence and the Grand Award – with 2,289, 1,387 and 100 winners this year in each category, respectively.
