Etsy shares year’s most popular home decor trends
These days, you’re spending a lot more time than usual at home – so you might as well enjoy the space that you’re in. And to help with that, Etsy recently released its annual home trends guide. Based on search data, the retailer rounded up the most popular home decor of 2020 from eco-friendly fabrics to bumblebee everything. Below we break down the biggest trends and show you how you can bring them into your own home.
1. Sustainable fabric
Stylish and sustainable is the name of the game for home decor in 2020, according to Etsy. Searches for organic bedding, for instance, were up 36% as people start caring more and more about finding pieces that are both good for their homes and good for the environment. Other popular eco-conscious materials include hemp, cactus silk, and raw cotton. You can find sustainable furniture pieces at retailers like Home Depot and Coyuchi.
2. Hanging planters
Plant parents rejoice! With searches for wall or hanging planters up 16%, it seems that everyone wants to take their greenery to the next level (literally). And there are a bevy of pretty planters to choose from, no matter your decorating style. Go with a macrame or natural wood planter for a whimsical, bohemian vibe or opt for a bold geometric one for a more contemporary look.
3. Ancient accents
What would the ancient Greeks do? That’s what people are asking themselves when decorating their homes, as searches for statue or bust planters and vases have increased nearly 50% in the last six months on
Etsy. To bring Greek- or Roman-inspired accents into your own space, consider adding a decorative vase to a bookshelf or countertop or using a Grecian bust as a planter for your houseplants.
4. Resin
Stunning coffee tables. Agate coasters. Bold wall art. Resin (a solid substance made from plants) comes in all shapes and forms – and it’s more popular than ever, with searches for resin decor up 62% over the last few months. One way to use resin in your home that designers are currently loving is with pieces that pair the sleek resin with other textures like natural wood or stone.
5. Bee motifs
According to all the buzz on Etsy (sorry, not sorry for the pun), 2020 is the year of the bumblebee. Etsy reports that searches for bee drawer knobs are up nearly 70% while searches for bee wallpaper up 25%. Don’t worry – there’s a chic way to bring the bee motif into your home (no cheesy “bee happy” wall signs involved!), like brass knobs or upscale dinnerware.
6. Retro sunsets
If you’re a fan of all things ’70s, you’re in luck because the rattan furniture and solid bright color schemes of decades past are back in style. Etsy reports that searches for sunset prints are up a staggering 99% while searches for ’70s prints are also on the rise. And since the trend comes in the form of wall decor like artwork or fabric hangings, it’s an easy – and more importantly, temporary – way to add a nostalgic touch to your home.
