World No. 1 Rahm commits to WGC-FEDEX St. Jude Invitational
Fresh off his Memorial Tournament victory, Jon Rahm – who also ascended to No. 1 in the latest World Golf Rankings – on Sunday committed to the World Golf Championships-fedex St. Jude Invitational.
The WGC-FEDEX St. Jude Invitational is scheduled to begin July 30 at TPC Southwind. Earlier this month, the PGA Tour announced the tournament will be held without spectators as it continues to play amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The win at the Memorial was the fourth PGA Tour victory of the 25-yearold's young career and the first since April 2019, when he won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Rahm will be playing TPC Southwind for the second time. The former Arizona State star finished seventh at last year's WGC-FEDEX St. Jude Invitational. He raised $23,000 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in the process by finishing the tournament with 18 birdies and one eagle. Before the tournament began, Rahm (along with Justin Thomas, Patrick Reed and Max Homa) pledged to donate set amounts for each birdie and eagle.
"(It's) such a great event thanks to the atmosphere that's created around this event and what we're playing for, that just giving back, it cost nothing to me honestly," Rahm said after last year's tournament in Memphis. "It's no effort, and I'm just happy I can hopefully make somebody smile today."
Rahm joins Brooks Koepka, Webb Simpson, Dustin Johnson, Bryson Dechambeau, Collin Morikawa and Daniel
Berger as official commitments for the WGC-FEDEX St. Jude Invitational.
