Fedex Office: Face masks now required in stores

- Max Garland

Fedex Office is now requiring all its customers to wear face masks while inside its stores, the Fedex company said Friday.

“For the health and safety of our communities, customers and team members, we are now requiring all customers to wear face coverings upon entering, and while inside, all of our stores throughout the country,” Fedex Office said on Twitter.

Fedex Office is the latest company to implement a face mask requirement. Many of the United States’ largest retailers, including Walmart, Target and Kroger, have announced mandatory face mask policies inside their stores as COVID-19 cases continue to climb in the country.

Fedex Office, which provides various printing and shipping services, operates roughly 2,200 stores and employs some 15,000 people. Some of its employees have been furloughed “to protect the financial stability of the company,” Fedex said in April.

Fedex Office has also closed some of its stores and operated others at reduced hours during the pandemic.

In its most recently reported financial quarter, Fedex saw a non-cash asset impairment charge of $348 million tied to Fedex Office. The company saw “declining print revenue and temporary store closures … resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic,” according to a recent regulatory filing.
