Here are 20 Memphis-area high school golfers to watch in 2020
The first TSSAA high school sport to return to action since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down sports in March will be golf, which starts Monday.
Here are 20 Memphis-area high school golfers to keep an eye on.
Girls
Hana Barber, St. Mary’s, 8th grade: Barber posted three second-place finishes on the Sneds tour and will be playing up at the varsity level this year.
Ella Cress, Northpoint, Jr.: Cress finished fourth in the DII-A state tournament last year, shooting 8-over and leading Northpoint to a runner-up finish.
Grace Denegri, St. Agnes, Fr.: Denegri will be one of the top golfers for defending state champ St. Agnes. She won four tournaments on the Sneds tour last year.
Anna Heck, St. Agnes, So.: Heck finished fourth in the DIIAA state tournament in 2019 at 6-over. She is the younger sister of last year’s state champion, Stanford signee Rachel Heck.
Carla Kay Hickam, Northpoint, Sr.: Hickam finished fourth in the DII-A state tournament last year, shooting 18-over in 2019.
Claire Hollingsworth, St. Benedict, Fr.: Hollingsworth shot 81 and won the Orgill tournament on the Sneds tour this summer.
Tanner Massey, St. Benedict, Fr.: Massey finished fourth in a Sneds tour tournament.
Morgan Simmons, Hutchison, So.: Simmons shot 33-over and finished 14th at the DII-AA state tournament last year.
Claire Todd, ECS, Fr.: Todd won three tournaments on the Sneds tour last year, and she shot a 75 on May 27 at Cherokee Valley Golf Club.
Kimberly Tsai, Houston, Sr.: Tsai tied for eighth and shot 8over at the Large Class state tournament.
Boys James Alexander, MUS, So.:
Alexander shot 16-over at the DII-AA state tournament and finished 27th.
Clarence Chapman, MUS, So.: Chapman shot 5-over at the DII-AA state tournament last year and tied for 16th.
Brooks Habans, Christian Brothers, Sr.: Habans tied for 24th at the DIIAA state tournament and shot 14-over.
James Reid Hamblen, St. George’s Jr.: Hamblen tied for 13th at the DII-A state tournament last year, shooting 9over.
Dalton Harrison, Arlington, Jr.: Harrison is a two-time district champion who qualified for the state tournament two years ago.
Cole Koslo, Briarcrest, So.: Koslo finished 28th at the DII-AA state tournament last year, shooting 17-over.
Carson Massa, Christian Brothers, Sr.: Massa qualified for the DII-AA state tournament last year.
Drew Oxley, Christian Brothers, Sr.: Oxley tied for 22nd at the DII-AA state tournament last year shooting 12-over.
Luke Sienkewicz, ECS, Jr.r: The reigning Commercial Appeal Boys Golfer of the Year shot 1-over at the DII-A state tournament and finished sixth.
Rivers Veazey, ECS, So.: Veazey finished 26th at the DII-A state tournament and shot 24-over.
