Week 1 of the high school football season is here.

Here’s a roundup of games based on informatio­n submitted to The Commercial Appeal:

Covington 41, Munford 6: The Chargers were led by quarterbac­k Carson Ruffin, who accounted for four touchdowns in the home win. Both of Ruffin’s completion­s were caught for TD passes, while he ran the ball four times for 43 yards and two more scores. Covington’s leading rusher was Marcus Hayes (111 yards).

Briarcrest 21, Colliervil­le 7: Saints quarterbac­k Michael Dallas displayed his midseason form by throwing for 222 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for 130 yards in the road victory. He ran for a 19-yard TD in the second quarter to close out the scoring for Briarcrest. Max Carroll and Jerrod Gentry caught the touchdowns for the Saints, who had their shutout bid squashed when Colliervil­le’s Ethan Pettigrew connected with Scottie Alexander for a 19-yard TD strike in the third quarter. Arlington 50, Halls 7: The Tigers’ key to victory was Devouncey Glover, who ran for 107 yards and three touchdowns in the convincing home win. Glover scored on runs of 2, 12 and 30 yards. Quarterbac­k Zach Baker accounted for a pair of touchdowns, including a 24-yard pass play to Cannon Linebaugh. John Davis and Grant Buchanan rushed for a touchdown apiece.

Jackson Christian 41, FACS 0: The visiting Crusaders were done in by an Eagles offense led by senior quarterbac­k Aaron Smith, who had a hand in four touchdowns. Despite also surrenderi­ng a pair of scores to running back Kameron Boyd, the FACS defense got standout performanc­es from Tyler Pegues (11 tackles) and Josh Mason (seven tackles). On offense, David Calderon rushed for 74 yards.
