The day the ‘invisible man’ came to my high school

- Your Turn

On the first day of school, everything started to feel normal even though I was extremely nervous. People were still social distancing themselves and wearing masks but yet everything seemed average.

As the day went by, I met new friends and half of all my teachers. My nerves even went away. My day was going good but after lunch, everything went downhave hill.

After lunch, everyone went to their fifth period class. While I was sitting in class, the intercom came on.

“This is a public service announcement from the board of Shelby County Schools," came blaring from the intercom. "There has been numerous reports that this 'invisible person' has been infecting people with a previous and wellknown virus, COVID-19. Since there is still no cure or vaccine for this virus, we are demanding that all schools in the district of Shelby County evacuate as soon as possible in a safely manner. Please make sure that students make it home safely and wear a mask if you one.”

As soon as the announcement went off, everyone started to panic. The teachers tried to soothe the students but that made the problem worse.

The teachers began to call our parents and some 12th graders started to leave. But before some of the students made it out the door, the “invisible man” already claimed its territory.

People started to get sick from left to right. It was like history repeating itself all over again.

I started ducking and dodging because this was really a life or death situation for me. I ran to the safest place I could find and hid in the janitor's closet.

While I was locking the door, I heard countless amounts of people coughing and sneezing. I used the janitor's jacket to barricade the bottom of the door so nothing could get in.

I waited and waited but then everything became silent. I waited an additional 20 minutes because I was afraid something bad was going to happen. I walked out into the hallway but everyone was gone.

I started to question myself because I thought I was going crazy.

But to my surprise, the worst was yet to come.
