Memphis mandates face coverings

- Evan Barnes

If you're one of the few fans who will attend a Memphis football game, it's no surprise you'll have to wear a mask or face covering at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.

The Memphis athletic department said in a statement Monday that coverings must be over the nose and mouth "for entry, exit and movement throughout the stadium grounds." That includes in parking areas and being seated during game action.

It still remains unclear what the seating capacity will be for the season opener Sept. 5. Only season-ticket holders will be allowed entry, and tickets are being allocated based on Tiger Scholarship Fund giving level and priority points.

Fans will enter the stadium at four different gates (Gates 1, 3, 4, 6) in order to minimize foot traffic. They will have an entry gate designated on their ticket, and game tickets will scan only at that gate.

Gates will open 90 minutes before kickoff, and fans must stay in one of four designed quadrants of the stadium based on the gate they enter. Exact seat locations will be sent the week of each home game.

All concession stands will be cashless while only offering three or four menu items in closed containers or bottles.

Memphis already announced that fans will be seated 12 feet apart for the season opener, and that there will be no tailgating or overnight parking allowed. The department is switching to digital ticketing for the entire season.

Parking lots will open two hours before kickoff, and fans must show tickets for entry.
