When: Thursday, 7 p.m.

The Saints hit the road for the second week in a row against a Class 6A opponent, after they beat Colliervil­le 21-7. Houston dropped its opener against Christian Brothers, marking the Mustangs' first regular-season loss since 2018. Will Houston be able to contain the run after giving up 260 yards and three touchdowns to Dallan Hayden last week?

Thompson's pick: Houston 28, Briarcrest 21

ECS (0-0) at Arlington (1-0)

When: Thursday, 7 p.m.

It's the opener for defending DIIAA state champion ECS. The Eagles return the area's top prospect in

Clemson offensive line commitment Dietrick Pennington, as well as quarterbac­k Jacob Hatcher, running back Jaylen Greenwood, and Blue Cross Bowl MVP linebacker Andrew Agapos. Arlington is coming off of a blowout win over Halls.

Thompson's pick: ECS 42, Arlington 20

Covington (1-0) at Haywood (0-1)

When: Thursday, 7 p.m.

This is a matchup between two teams that made the state semifinals in their respective classifications last year. Class 3A Covington picked up right where it left off with a dominant 41-6 win over Tipton County rival Munford, a Class 5A school. Class 4A Haywood fell to Class 5A Henry County 27-18. The last time these teams have played was in 2014, when Haywood won 14-12.

Thompson's pick: Covington 31, Haywood 24.

Millington (0-1) at Munford (0-1)

When: Thursday, 7 p.m.

Munford has won the M&M Bowl against rival Millington every year since 2014. Both lost by double-figures last week — Munford fell to Covington 41-6 and Millington lost to Ripley 30-7. Munford beat Millington 12-7 last year, the closest the game has been in awhile.

Thompson's pick: Munford 28, Millington 14

FACS (0-1) at Christian Brothers (1-0)

When: Friday, 7 p.m.

The Brothers picked up a huge road win over Houston last week and are looking to keep the momentum going. Dallan Hayden was dominant and the Purple Wave defense held Houston to 14 points. FACS was shut out 41-0 at Jackson Christian.
