Cleared for takeoff
Memphis International Airport lands Delta flight to Indianapolis after five-year gap.
Memphis International Airport will have a daily Delta Air Lines flight to Indianapolis starting Oct. 1.
Delta discontinued its direct Memphis flight to Indianapolis International Airport in 2015, two years after it ceased hub operations in Memphis. The flight will use a 76-seat Embraer 175 aircraft.
“We are very excited to see Delta add service during a very challenging time for the industry,” said Pace Cooper, chairman of the Board of Commissioners for the Memphis-shelby County Airport Authority, in a news release. “This is a testament to the strength of the Memphis market as well as Delta’s addition of another attractive destination.”
Delta said its COVID-19 safety measures include: Requiring face coverings on board the aircraft, blocking middle seats and limiting customers per flight through Jan. 6, sanitizing all aircraft before departure and using “state-of-theart” air circulation systems.
The route provides additional benefit for Indianapolis-based Fedex employees, said Indianapolis Airport Authority Executive Director Mario Rodriguez in a separate release. Indianapolis is the home of Fedex Express’ second national hub after its World Hub in Memphis, where the company is based.
