For the first time since the pandemic began, the Shelby County Health Department shuttered five businesses for not being compliant with COVID-19 safety protocols, the department said Tuesday.

Over the Labor Day weekend, five bars and lounges along Winchester Road in Hickory Hill were closed by the health department for violating directive No. 11. The businesses, located within a 3-mile stretch of one another, are:

● The Indulge Lounge, 5959 Winchester Rd.

● In Love Memphis, 7144 Winchester Rd.

● Dubai Hookah Bar, 6700 Winchester Rd.

● Menue Club, 6642 Winchester Rd.

● Height Lounge, 6813 Winchester Rd. Complaint calls concerning the businesses and eight other bars and restaurants were called in to the Mayor's Action Center and the county attorney's office, Chip Washington, spokesperson for the department, said in an email Tuesday.

The other businesses that received complaints — most of which are located in Midtown, — were deemed compliant with the protocols in the health directive, Washington said.

Those businesses are:

● Lafayette's, 2119 Madison Ave. h The Blue's Club, 1405 Airways Blvd.

● Sweet Noshings Candy Store, 2113 Madison Ave.

● Robata Ramen and Yakatori Bar, 2116 Madison Ave.

● Local on the Square, 2126 Madison Ave.

● Blow Hookah Lounge, 815 Exocet Dr, Cordova

● Bayou Bar and Grill, 2094 Madison Ave. h Golden India, 2097 Madison Ave. Sweet Noshings was out of compliance with its self-serve candy jars, but the store manager was "cooperative for correction," Washington said.
