Hardin County star Wolfe commits to Ole Miss

One day after decommitting from Tennessee, Hardin County four-star tight end Hudson Wolfe announced he has committed to Ole Miss.

“So I made the decision to decommit from Tennessee, and I was looking around,” Wolfe wrote Friday on Twitter. “With the coaching staff at Ole Miss with Coach (Lane) Kiffin, Coach (Jeff ) Lebby and Coach (Joe Jon) Finley, they have a history at developing the tight end. Coach Kiffin at (Florida Atlantic) had a Mackey Award winner. Their history with developing a tight end is unmatched, and that is where I wanted to be.”

Harrison Bryant won the 2019 Mackey Award, given to the top tight end in the nation.

Wolfe, a 6-foot-6, 240-pound athlete is listed as the No. 7 tight end in the country and No. 6 recruit from Tennessee in the class of 2021. He will be signing his letter of intent on Wednesday.

Ole Miss was on Wolfe’s top five college choices that he released in March along with Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and Tennessee.

“The relationship that I had with the guys at Tennessee was a great one, and the coaches up there are phenomenal people,” Wolfe said. “Ultimately, it was a business decision, and I had to do what was best.”

Ole Miss has three tight ends on its roster with one senior and two freshmen. The Rebels don’t have any tight end commitments in the Class of 2021.

“Oxford is a great place, and the facilities were great,” Wolfe said. “I like what they have to offer.”

Wolfe committed to Tennessee on June 15.

Wolfe did not play at Hardin County this season after having a microdiscectomy, which is a minimally invasive procedure for a herniated lumbar disc. As a junior, he had 27 catches for 471 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior to help Hardin County reach the Class 4A state quarterfinals in 2019.

“It was awful this year, and I hated it,” Wolfe said. “I made the decision to have surgery and didn’t have much choice. I feel great now.”

On Dec. 15, Wolfe will pass the 14week mark since his surgery. He got the green light last week to start running again and put weight back on.
