-

Martha was born in Shelby, Mississippi and grew up in Cleveland, Mississippi where she attended the Hill Demonstration School and graduated from Cleveland High School. After graduation she attended Mississippi State College for Women as an art major.

Martha lived in Starkville, Mississippi raising three children. She was active in First Baptist Church, the Starkville Women’s Club and the Starkville Junior Auxiliary, serving as president. She was also President of the Starkville Country Club Ladies Auxiliary and she was on the board of the Starkville Country Club. She co-chaired the 1970 census of Oktibbeha County training and overseeing the census takers.

During the mid seventies, Martha made the decision to return to MSCW to study interior design, starting a new chapter in her life. She began her career as an interior designer for the Columbus Mississippi Herman Miller dealership. In 1982 she moved to Memphis, Tennessee to become the Director of Design for Mcquiddy Office Designers. There she worked with major healthcare and corporate accounts. Martha served on the Advisory Board for the Mississippi State University Design Department, helping them to obtain their accreditation. She also served on the board of the American Institute of Architects as a Corporate Partner. While working with local architects, designers and numerous accounts, she cultivated many lifelong friends.

Martha loved her career but also had many interests outside of work. After taking a continuing education class at the University of Memphis in sailing 101 and 102, she proceeded to buy a sailboat which she kept at Pickwick Lake. One of her many adventures was to help close friends crew their large sailboat to Key West, stopping at ports along the way. Martha loved traveling with her friends to various islands and countries. Her favorite destination was Italy where she traveled numerous times. Martha loved to entertain and cook. Her backyard and screened porch on Evergreen was the ideal spot to enjoy friends and neighbors.

Martha Hill Nash was preceded in death by her parents, Lorraine Tims Hill Acord and Maurice Emory Hill. She is survived by three children: Evelyn (Howard) Randolph of Jackson Mississippi, Warren Nash of Orlando Florida and Jon (Nicole) Nash of Orlando Florida; her five grandchildren Will, Nash and Peyton Randolph and Stephen and Allyson Nash; her brother Jon Hill of Tallahassee Florida and sisters Susan Frazier and Virginia Ables, both of Tyler Texas.
