- Vera May Hankins, went to our heavenly father Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at the age of 94.

She was born on November 23, 1926 along with her twin sister, Verna in Sheffield, AL to Ann and Jessie White.

The family later moved to Memphis, TN, where she attended Messick High School and was a cheerleade­r and during the summer she worked for the Memphis Park Commission. Vera was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church Memphis. She was a lifetime member of the PTA, having served as President of Richland Jr. High and White Station High School. She was a Girl Scout Leader of Troop 138. In 1968 she took 21 Scouts on a three week tour of Europe, including a stay at the Girl Scout Chalet in Switzerlan­d.

On May 10, 1946 she and James W. Hankins were married and celebrated their 70th anniversar­y in 2016. During their years together they enjoyed the love of family, spending time at Pickwick and Destin, FL, as well as traveling the world in retirement. She never met a stranger. Many of them she met on their travels remained lifelong friends. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.

Mrs. Hankins was preceded by her parents, an infant son, Ronnie Hankins, sister: Mary Smith, Verna Bohannon, Nellie Anderson, brother, Jim White and husband Jim Hankins.

She is survived by her children, Mike Hankins (Joyce), Linda Mynatt (Randy), Brenda Stephenson (Rod), sister, Margaret Guess, grandchild­ren: Michelle Nix (Robby), Heather Derosa (Joe), Andy Mynatt (Kelly), Rob Mynatt (Dori), Melissa M. Bryant (David), Jordan Simmons (Laura) and Rachel Simmons, Jennifer Ciccone (Andrea), and Megan Douglas (Brad), Madison Fredrick (Cody), Morgan Carden (Bradley), great grandchild­ren, Hannah Grace, Jackson, Caroline and Rebecca Bryant, Hunter Mynatt, Vera and Fox Mynatt, and Liv Simmons, Tyler Stepheson, Emma Cannon, Parker, Carson, Reese Douglas, Adeline, Bennett Fredrick, and Colt, Collins Carden.

The visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. also on Wednesday at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
