Change status quo of corporate business culture

- Your Turn Carlton Boleyjack Guest columnist

What this time represents is a change in the status quo. While we are certainly a country divided upon a few ideas based around personal choices and the way we exercise our basic or religious rights, we are bound by our love for our country and our fellow man.

If that was too cheesy, in reality most of us are not wealthy or skilled enough to leave the country for an extended period, so we are stuck together.

No matter where you placed your finger or pen in the latest election, surely where we place them in the future will matter more to the future than any action or thought in the past. The change in the status quo is one of business ideas and ideals.

We see the corporate raider leadership style, the epitome of 1980’s style business, personal profit over all, coming to the end of its shelf life.

Much like Mr. Baldwin’s rendition of Macho Man on SNL, the performance is well done but a little over the top and an exaggerated form of masculinity that was better suited for a time past.

It’s time for a change

What we as a country need is time to heal while we, hopefully, take a more modern look at how we handle the business of our country. Some more contemporary approaches incorporate a balancing act of needs and desired outcomes where profit is not the only factor in decision making, some call it a balanced scorecard approach.

The highest evolution is the Social Entrepreneurship or company founded with the key stakeholders being the people/public. One could refer to democracy itself is a social enterprise, exercise, or experiment.

American citizens must keep in mind the outcomes, we as a people desire to see. If we continue to act and vote in our own best interest, we will cultivate a future that is better for our future generations.

My hope is that we can get to know our neighbors as this plague begins to pass. Also, that we emerge from our time out with more empathy and compassion for our fellow man.
